Hello! I’m Vivian, a Health Promotion student at the University of Georgia with a strong passion for improving people’s lives through healthcare. My interests lie at the intersection of prevention, clinical care, and innovation, with a particular focus on cardiology and medical device technology. Through my academic experiences and hands-on exposure in clinical settings, I have developed a deeper understanding of how advanced technology can directly impact patient outcomes. I am especially drawn to opportunities that combine science, communication, and real-world application, allowing me to contribute to meaningful improvements in both individual and population health.

Professional Experience

Public Health Research and design

Throughout my time at UGA, I have conducted research on HPV vaccination, diabetes, and maternal healthcare, focusing on how individual behaviors and systemic factors shape health outcomes. My work has explored barriers to HPV vaccine uptake among rural populations, patterns of disease risk and prevention in diabetes, and gaps in postpartum care that impact maternal health. Through these projects, I have developed skills in data analysis, literature synthesis, and translating research into practical, community-focused solutions. I am especially interested in using evidence-based approaches to improve access to care, reduce health disparities, and inform programs that promote long-term health at both the individual and population level.

Shadowing Experience

I have gained hands-on exposure to the clinical environment through shadowing experiences with cardiac rhythm management professionals and cardiac electrophysiologists. During this time, I observed device-based procedures, including how advanced technologies are used to diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias, while also gaining insight into real-time clinical decision-making. I had the opportunity to see how care teams collaborate, communicate, and operate efficiently in high-stakes settings. This experience strengthened my understanding of clinical workflow and deepened my interest in the intersection of innovative medical technology and patient care.

Health Policy Advocacy

I have developed experience in health policy advocacy through coursework and projects focused on improving access to care and addressing health disparities. My work has included analyzing policies such as postpartum Medicaid expansion and evaluating their impact on maternal health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations. Through this, I have strengthened my ability to assess policy effectiveness, communicate complex issues clearly, and advocate for evidence-based solutions. I am especially interested in policies that support preventive care, expand access, and promote more equitable health systems.

Community Outreach and Volunteer Experience

I have been actively involved in community outreach and volunteer work, contributing to organizations focused on improving the well-being of diverse populations. Through my work with UNICEF at UGA, I have helped organize fundraisers and educational initiatives supporting disadvantaged youth, while also engaging in service through UGA HEROs to enhance the quality of life for children affected by HIV/AIDS. My volunteer efforts with Atlanta Community Food Bank and Meals by Grace have strengthened my commitment to addressing food insecurity at the community level. Additionally, as a coach with Extra Special People, I work directly with individuals with disabilities, fostering inclusion, confidence, and engagement through sports. These experiences have developed my leadership, communication, and service-oriented mindset, while reinforcing my passion for community-based public health initiatives.
